Sustanable Issues

Well this is what's been happening for over 10
years in America.  In late 1993, the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) gave permission
to the Monsanto corporation to market
"Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone" or
"rBGH".  rBGH is a genetically engineered copy
of a naturally-occurring hormone produced by
cows. The purpose of rBGH is to enable cows to
produce more milk than they naturally would.
And although this is great for the dairy economy
and The Monsanto corporation, studies have
shown that it is not so great for consumers.
According to recent studies, rBGH has been
linked to breast and prostate cancer, as well as
other serious health concerns. Eighteen nations
have banned rBGH, citing its toxicity to both
cows and humans.
This includes the 15-member European
Union,  Australia and New Zealand. In
January 1999, Canada also banned
rBGH because of the adverse health
effects on cows. So, why is American
still marketing this product?  That's a
good question.The FDA has been
challenged on many occasions about
their approval of rBGH. Nothing,
however has been able to retract their
approval of rBGH.  Monsanto has even
paid for a law which made it illegal for
stores to advertise that they sell
"hormone-free" milk.   In the end,
consumers are still unaware of this
harmful artificial hormone, while
Monsanto's profits are estimated at
$300 -$500 million annually, at our
expense.

Now, that's something to think about.

How would you feel if I told you
there was a product in the
market that is considered
unsafe by other nations, but not
by the United States?  And
although this product is
marketed in the US, most
consumers are not aware of the
risk posed by this product since
it's not labeled? If you're like
me, you would probably be
surprised.
